From Father of the Bride to Master of Ceremonies

Malachy and his lovely daughter, who got married at Dunadry Hotel And Gardens

This Father’s day, we thought it would be fitting to interview Malachy, as he himself was the father of the bride at his own daughter’s wedding in Dunadry Hotel and Gardens.

After being a Father of the Bride, did you think of anything different in how you play your role when being Master of Ceremonies?

The importance of working as part of a team effectively, ensuring everyone is appreciated with the part they play in the preparation of getting a wedding set up ready for the day, as it isn’t just about me, it is about everyone from serving the food to being part of the bar team.

I took a lot of things on for my daughter’s wedding – she had me very involved, asking me to help with menu designs, decorations etc. so from that I realized how important the staff are in coming together to make sure everything goes well on the actual day.

With my role I primarily focus on the bride and the groom, as it is their special day. I want to make them feel comfortable from the moment they step through the Dunadry Hotel And Gardens’ doors. I fully understand that every wedding is different, no two are the same, so I must make sure the couple is taken care of and that they leave with so many memories to take away and cherish.

What similarities are there between being Father of the and Master of Ceremonies?

I would say one similarity would be taking care of the couple, or in the case of myself, my daughter, making sure they are kept comfortable and calm, and if anything small may happen, be there to say let it go over your head, it’s going to be alright and help them enjoy their day to the fullest.

What is your favourite thing about being a master of ceremonies?

I would have to say my favourite part of being a master of ceremonies is having couples come back to me after their wedding when visiting the hotel for their anniversary or what not, and thanking me and the team for making their day so special, it is the small comments and actions that matter on a couples wedding day, and I love that I am part of making that happen.

Happy Father’s day to all the father figures in our lives today. It is about celebrating those who you hold dear and can count on!
